Which came first? Name the oldest, or the newest
Past and Future are two of the four daily games in Wonderhop. Each question asks you to name something in a category that can be dated, and the date of your answer is what matters: in Past, the oldest answer you can think of; in Future, the most recent one.
It feels like a which-came-first quiz, except you do not sort cards or pick between two options: you type your own answer and the game places it in time.

Each game has 7 questions, with 30 seconds per question. You type freely, and each good answer sends you centuries back, or forward, through time.
You never have to type a year. The game knows the date of each answer on its list, and you see it after you confirm, next to a few other answers players gave.
Which date counts
The date that fits the question: when a film came out, when a company was founded, when a building went up, when a person was born. Something old can be remade or renamed later; what counts is the date the question is about.
How answers are rated
Your answer is compared with the other answers to the same question. Perfect (in gold) goes to answers among the very oldest in Past, or the very newest in Future. Then come Excellent, Great, OK and Weak.
A real answer that is too recent for Past, or too old for Future, is rated Weak, not refused. A wrong or made-up answer is refused by the AI judge, with a short reason, and you can try again before the timer ends.
3 tips to go further in time
- Think in eras before you think in names. Place a few candidates roughly (ancient, medieval, last century, this year), then type the one at the far end.
- For Future, think of what is new right now: the latest release, the newest model, the most recent edition. A recent answer beats a famous one.
- Check the reference date. If the question is about a founding or a release, a thing that became popular late can still be very old, and the other way around.
Questions
- Is it a timeline game?
- In a way. Like chronology games where you put events in order, you need a feel for dates, but here you come up with the answer yourself instead of sorting cards.
- Do I need to know exact years?
- No. You only type the answer; the game knows its date. Knowing roughly which era something belongs to is enough to play well.
- Are Past and Future played every day?
- Yes. Every day there are 4 games of 7 questions: Sky, Abyss, Past and Future, the same for everyone, all free.
- Is it free?
- Yes, with no ads and no account. An optional Hop Pass adds the archives, to replay past days, and an unlimited mode.
