Rarest answer game: find the answer nobody gives

Abyss is the opposite of Sky. You get 7 questions that ask you to name something, and you look for a real answer that almost nobody else gives. The rarer your answer, the deeper you dive.

It is the idea behind Pointless on British TV: correct answers that few people thought of are worth the most. Wonderhop turns it into a short daily game for one player, with free typing and the same questions for everyone.

How an Abyss game works

Abyss has 7 questions, with 40 seconds each instead of 30 in the other games: rare answers take a little longer to find. You type whatever you want, as long as it truly answers the question.

After each answer you see how rare it was and a few other answers players gave. Your score for the day is the total of your 7 answers.

How rarity is measured

Your answer is compared with what everyone else typed for the same question. What counts is the share of players who gave a more common answer than yours: if almost everyone went for something more obvious, you score high.

So rarity is not fixed in advance, it depends on the crowd. Percentages start from an estimate and then follow real players' answers. Perfect (in gold) goes to the rarest answers, then come Excellent, Great, OK and Weak. Weak means a real answer that too many people gave.

Rare, but real: the AI judge

Rare does not mean invented. If your answer is not on the list, an AI judge checks whether it really answers the question. A made-up word, a joke or an answer outside the category is refused, with a short sentence that explains why, and you can type another one before the timer ends.

An accepted answer that nobody had given before is treated like the others: its share is estimated, then it follows the players who give it after you.

3 tips to find a rare answer

  1. Go one step more specific. The first answers that come to mind are the ones everyone types. Real sub-types, regional variants and lesser-known members of the category are where rare answers hide.
  2. Stay strictly inside the category. A borderline answer can be refused and cost you precious seconds. Pick something you could defend in one sentence.
  3. Use the 40 seconds. Spend the first few listing the obvious answers in your head, then skip all of them and type the next real one you find.

Questions

Is it like Pointless?
In spirit, yes. In Pointless, teams look for correct answers that few people in a survey gave. Abyss is a daily version for one player, where you type your own answer instead of choosing from a board.
Can I type something absurd to win?
No. Only real answers count. The judge refuses answers that are invented, misspelled beyond recognition or outside the question, and tells you why.
Why 40 seconds instead of 30?
Finding an answer that is both correct and rare takes longer than naming the obvious one, so Abyss gives you a little more time.
Is it free?
Yes. The 4 daily games are free, with no ads and no account. An optional Hop Pass adds the archives and an unlimited mode.
