How to find the oldest, or the newest, answer

In Past, you look for the oldest thing in a category; in Future, the most recent one. You never type a year: the game knows the date of each answer. What you need is a feel for eras, and a few good habits.

5 tips

  1. Place a few candidates roughly in time first: ancient, medieval, last century, this year.
  2. Check which date the prompt is about: a founding, a release, a birth, a construction.
  3. Things that became famous late can be very old, and the other way around.
  4. For Future, think of what is new right now: the latest edition, the newest model, this year's release.
  5. A real answer that is too recent for the Past, or too old for the Future, is not refused: it simply scores less.

An example, with a made-up prompt

"Name a famous clock tower." Big Ben's tower in London, finished in 1859, comes to mind first. For the Past, the astronomical clock of Prague, from 1410, goes much further back. For the Future, the clock tower of Mecca, completed in 2012, is far more recent than both.

This prompt is not in the game: it was made up for this page.

Which date counts

The date that fits the question: when a film came out, when a company was founded, when a building was finished. A thing rebuilt or renamed later keeps the date the question is about.
