How to find a rare answer that still counts
In Abyss, the rarer your real answer, the deeper you dive. The difficulty is not finding something rare, it is finding something rare that the judge will accept. Here is how good players do it.

5 tips
- List the obvious answers in your head first, then skip all of them.
- Go one step more specific: a sub-type, a regional variant, a lesser-known member of the category.
- Stay strictly inside the category. A borderline answer can be refused and cost you precious seconds.
- Type a real, recognisable name. Rare does not mean invented, and the judge checks.
- Use the 40 seconds: you have 10 more than in the other games, precisely to dig.
An example, with a made-up prompt
"Name a type of knot." Most people would say a slip knot, a reef knot or a bowline. A sailor or a climber would find rarer ones, like a sheet bend, a Prusik or a Turk's head, all real and all inside the category. "Knotty problem" is a joke and would be refused.
This prompt is not in the game: it was made up for this page.
When the judge says no
The judge explains every refusal in one short sentence: spelling, an answer outside the category, or something that does not exist. Read it, then type another answer before the timer ends.
Questions
- How is rarity measured?
- Your answer is compared with what the other players typed for the same question: the fewer people gave it, the higher you score.
- Can I type something absurd to win?
- No. Only real answers that fit the prompt count, and the judge tells you why when it refuses one.
- Is it like Pointless?
- In spirit, yes: correct answers that few people thought of are worth the most. Here it is a daily game for one player.
