A survey game for the classroom, free and in 9 languages

Wonderhop is a daily guessing game: students read a prompt like "Name a food that a lot of people hate" and try to give the answer most players gave. It takes a few minutes, it gets everyone talking, and it works in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish and Turkish.

There is nothing to install and no student account to create: you open wonderhop.io on the classroom screen and play.

A 10 minute warm-up

  1. Project wonderhop.io and open Sky, the most common answer game.
  2. Read the prompt out loud. Students write or say their answer in 10 seconds.
  3. Take a vote with a show of hands, then type the class answer before the timer ends.
  4. Look at the result together: was the class like everyone else?

For language classes

Set the game to the language you teach: the questions are the same in all 9 languages, so students practise everyday vocabulary with real stakes. Collect on the board all the answers the class thought of, then compare them with the ones the game shows.

For advanced students, Abyss asks for a real answer almost nobody gives: it is a great way to dig for less common words.

For discussion

Why would most people say this? Why did nobody think of that? The two opposite games, Sky and Abyss, make students explain their reasoning. Past and Future bring history and culture into it, with dates.

Without a screen

The survey questions page has 30 prompts and simple rules to play with paper only: the class becomes the survey. Those prompts were written for that page and are not questions from the daily games.
